100 Words: Choosing the Influencers of my Soil (Soul)
Water gives life. But too much water can also erode and overwhelm the stream bed.
We are all the boulder in the center of a stream. Molded, shaped, and influenced by our environment.
Native environments will always have strong impact. Some environs impact more deeply than others.
Yet I am human. Unlike a boulder, I have choices to make each day.
Water gives life. But too much water can also erode and overwhelm the stream bed. Too many inputs. Impossible to manage. So easy to drown.
My desire: A few good sources of life. Quality. Variety. Deep roots. Well-nourished souls. Producing nourishing fruit. A life cycle.
What waters are flowing over and into my soul?
100 Words: When Coaching Clichés Kill My Mojo
We seek words or statements that seem to reach the marrow of the matter. Can we hold so tightly to ideas that the life giving sustenance is leached out?
The second edition of sharing 100 words from my current internal monologue on coaching, faith, running and life. Thanks for taking a moment to think aloud along with me.
Clichés abound in coaching. Or business or government or religion...
We seek words or statements that seem to reach the marrow of the matter. Can we hold so tightly to ideas that the life giving sustenance is leached out?
Undervalued trees in an idealized forest. Teammates in a team. Individuals in a culture. Nameless characters in our character.
How dangerous that can be. Much of what is true about working with people is hard to quantify or quality check.
Yet, quality control and keeping score is required.
While remembering, every jersey is filled with a soul. Soil to be tended.
100 Words: The Parable about the Soil (or soul)
(thoughts inspired and borrowed from Soul Keeping by John Ortberg and the Christian New Testament scripture parable of Mark chapter 4)
The snowy Minnesota soil under my care.
(thoughts inspired and borrowed from Soul Keeping by John Ortberg and the Christian New Testament scripture parable of Mark chapter 4)
My first attempt in collecting and condensing a thread of thought and consciousness into a 100 word post. The intention is not to emphasize my own understanding, but instead, to communicate what direction my thought has taken. Basically, I want “the thought” not “my thought” to be what you’re left with after reading. So….thanks for reading.
Myself, those around me, society. Sowing. Always sowing.
Thoughts, words and deeds. A seed. Always a seed.
A steady line of planters sowing an infinite row of seeds.
Good or bad, seed quickly takes root. And everyone is sowing all day, every day.
But the soil…
The soil of my life. My soul. Who is tending that real estate?
Who pulls the thistles and digs up the rocks? Who waters and plows?
And the responsibility of soil under my watch? Not mine, but that given me, to tend?
The hope of life is in the soil.
Soil is the variable.
